Too much of a good thing tied up in a bow string She’s away on business to practice her forgiveness Hire someone different, I’m feeling like an infant I see you watching me You counting every vocal fry Through the floater in your eye If I’m in trouble tell me why that could be Hire someone different, I’m feeling like an infant I see you watching me You counting every vocal fry Through the floater in your eye If I’m in trouble tell me why That could be

Such 04:05
Such a word may soon exist but for now I’m holding out The frantic writing from my fist doesn’t know what it's on about Such misfortune could be near, take the truth that I know away I could count my breath in fear not live to see another day Such the life my mother had all the kindness that she knew Eleanor don’t feel so bad she’s passed it on to you Such a waste of time you’d say when I’m dredging up this hurt I’ll put all my guards away when you promise to stay more alert Such a view I’ve paid to see but for now I’m still let down I’m not who you thought I’d be but I’ve worn it like a crown Such a word’s been ‘round for years one I’ll act like you didn’t say I could blame my ringing ears and maybe breathe another day Does it mean as much to you Did you bite off more than you could chew Does it mean as much to you Did you bite off more than you could chew

God I hope he made it home And as he wipes off his cologne let fate be proud of him In the morning won’t he wake and grab his book of notes to take And let fate be proud of him I close my eyes and still can’t place The points and creases of his face and let fate be proud of him His reign of terror appetite All the teeth marks from his bite Drain blood until his fates completely dry God I hope it isn’t so Why won’t you tell me what you know And let fate be proud of you If it's as good as what you pay Then what’s a dollar for a day And let fate get back to you Your reign of terror appetie All the teeth marks from your bite Sink in until you won this fight I wish I wasn’t here tonight I wish I knew So what can I do To end my stories the way that you do You’re asking me while I’m so young and green To turn water into gasoline God I hope he’s having fun This time we’ll let him think he won And let fate be proud of him In the morning when he wakes And thinks about the risks he takes Let fate be proud His reign of terror appetite All the teeth marks from his bite Drain blood until his fate runs dry I wish this time I didn’t try I wish I knew So what can I do To end my stories the way that you do You’re asking me while Im so young and green To turn water into gasoline And it's up to you So so sure its the right thing to do And after all of the things that you’ve seen You’ll turn water into gasoline

Heatwave 06:18
It’s a long long hospital year, it burned the country from you Is this how you wanna disappear? We never met the people here Watch the catfight from my window, you were way too stoned You asked me if I do black magic, sometimes when I’m alone Play the game a little bit longer pretend like we’d still be Should’ve maybe taken a picture, kinda burned it in my memory It’s a long long dog-eared book, the kind that makes me sleepy But if you love him then you’ll take a look, we figured this time it’d take gas to cook Watch the TV through your window, you were off the wall I thought I saw a question forming but there’s nothing there at all So play the game a little bit longer let’s see how far you’ll land Now I feel like I’m a part of all the things you said I’d never understand I’m just as evil when I let you try (Won’t forgive the look you gave, I’m an itch in the heatwave) Four million years of letting strangers die (Drowned in spirits aftershave, I’m an itch in the heatwave) It’s a real short trip to your house I chose to make it slowly And I told how I’d disappear the feeling’s there but the words aren’t here Watch you move your lips to answer you were miles away I think you talked for maybe an hour but still had nothing new to say So play the game just a little bit longer see how much I care Should have maybe taken a picture of the world were you thought that all is fair I’m just as evil when I let you try (Won’t forgive the look you gave, I’m an itch in the heatwave) Four million years of letting strangers die (Drowned in spirits aftershave, I’m an itch in the heatwave)

Picture 04:20
A head full of something in a hand full of nothing at all, at all, at all I cringe at the mention as I twist at the dial to call, to call, to call Eight miles from Odessa look at the mess I made of it all I just can't wait to be your back again I just can't wait to get held back again I think it's fate that's a maniac again I just can't hate that things are happening without me A glass full of bottles in a room of Aristotle's I see, I see, I see I wince in the corner cause I'm looking for some order to be, to be, to be Too far from home to undress and sit with the mess I've made of it all I just can't wait to be your back again I just can't wait to get held back again I think it's fate that's a maniac again I just can't hate that things are happening without me Send a picture I think we all wanna know where you've been Has it been so long? I'm thinking it's time that you come home again A wish full of something in a hand full of nothing at all, at all, at all I'm learning how to listen as I'm twisting at the dial to call, to call, to call I wish you'd see me I'm so grown up I got up after every fall I just can't wait to be your back again I just can't wait to be your back again I just can't wait to be your back again I just can't wait Send a picture I think we all wanna know where you've been Has it been so long? I'm thinking it's time that you come home again Send a picture I think we all wanna know where you've been Has it been so long? I'm thinking it's time that you come home, time that you come home again

It’s not so simple yet, I’m as bad you imagined and I took all I could get You can’t make me miss my friends you can’t make me feel like tying loose ends Cause it shows how much you know yeah it shows how much you know What a sight for my sore eyes I was only being stupid wasn’t tryna get a rise You can’t make me get the bends answering every question with “yes” and “it depends” Cause it shows how much you know yeah it shows how much you know Always getting started when it ends put my shirt on backwards you’ll tell me cause we’re friends It’s a secret keep it between All the movies we watched off screen I kid myself cause Cause it shows how much you know, yeah it shows how much you know Always getting started when it ends put my shirt on backwards you’ll tell me cause we’re friends It’s a secret keep it between All the movies we watched off screen I kid myself cause

Up to You 05:19
Had a bad dream about finding my scream burned out You taught me how to write it out Now I think I know what the ending’s about Guess I have come of age cause I hope you read each page And now my secrets finally out Now I think you know what the ending’s about It’s up to you you’re in my head What’s left to do, I want you instead I’ll kiss you the lips and try to come to grips I burned my bridges in the drought Now I just don’t care what the ending’s about It’s up to you you’re in my head What’s left to do, I want you instead

Up close and in full force I wrote the book and sold the chords Don’t you mishear me, I’m on my way We just don’t feel like there’s much left here to say

about

Rigby Picnic is the project of songwriter and producer Jake Hoffpauir. Between honing his skills working in the studio with other local Philadelphia artists such as Jet Fuel Soda and Lena Fine, Hoffpauir has been building Rigby Picnic’s new LP from the ground up. While past releases have experimented with emo, math rock, and R&B, The Bog of Eternal Stench sets Rigby Picnic in a sun soaked pop rock universe, with touches of psychedelia floating like clouds throughout. Though Hoffpauir's background in production shines through in moments, the record is rooted in a focus on pop songwriting. Drawing a broad range of influences from Sheryl Crow to Alex G, Rigby Picnic crafts a collection of thoughtful yet accessible tunes.
Hoffpauir is careful on The Bog of Eternal Stench not to rely on elaborate production to hide insecurities in his songs. On “Picture”, the album’s most accessible single, Hoffpauir fires off slick couplets over a steady groove, an earnest take on the sunny radio rock of the late 90s. Crisp rhythm guitars lock tight with simple drumming to form a solid bedrock for the song’s melody. The tempo-shifting third track, “Let Fate Be Proud” winds up from a slow opening to an uptempo groove, punctuated by Cars-eque guitar stabs and a chorus that shines with a classic pop glow.
Even in the darker corners of this record, such as the shoegaze tinged opener “There’s Going to Be”, melody takes the forefront, building from a tender-voiced verse into a barrage of washed out guitars and a climactic howl. Though The Bog of Eternal Stench has a tendency to bounce between styles, it remains anchored to a foundation of pop songwriting throughout.
